Editions & Authenticity
Fixed editions, numbers on the edge, certificates that match, dies that retire.
Edition sizes
750 for The Compass Rose, 500 for The Moon Tide, 250 for The Astrolabe. These numbers are fixed. The product page of each piece shows how many remain, updated when orders are packed.
Numbering
Every medallion carries its number on the edge, struck as three digits, 001 up to the size of the edition. Numbers are assigned in packing order and cannot be reserved or chosen.
Certificates
The Compass Rose ships with a numbered card. The Moon Tide ships with a numbered certificate. The Astrolabe ships with a certificate that is numbered and signed by hand. The number on the paper matches the number on the edge.
Retired dies
When the last piece of an edition is sold the dies are retired and never used again. We do not restrike, we do not release a second edition of the same design, and we do not sell the dies.
Not legal tender
These are art medals. They have no face value, are not issued by any government or mint authority, and are not coins in the legal sense. They are not an investment and we make no claim about their future value.
Precious metal content
We describe the metals exactly: solid bronze for The Compass Rose, a bronze core with a heavy sterling silver layer for The Moon Tide, a bronze core with fine silver and gold plating for The Astrolabe. We do not publish weights, because a plated piece should not be bought by the ounce.
Second hand pieces
A piece bought from anyone other than KERCOT SCALE LLC on this site is outside our returns policy and our defect replacement. If you are offered one, ask to see the certificate and check that the number matches the edge.
