About the piece
Two metals, two strikes, and a rete that turns.
An astrolabe was the navigator's whole sky in his hand: a disc of scales, and over it a pierced star map called the rete that turned to match the night. We struck the two parts separately, the disc in fine silver plate over bronze and the rete in gold plate, then set them on a pin so the rete still moves. It is the piece that took the longest to get right, and the one we make the fewest of.

Which metal is it, exactly?
Solid bronze core, fine silver plate; rete in gold plate. The core is solid bronze, the layer on top is real silver, and we say so because a plated piece should be bought for the work, not by the ounce.
How is it numbered?
Each piece carries its number on the edge, 001 to 250, struck in packing order. 61 remain. The number on the certificate matches the edge.
What comes in the box?
One Astrolabe medallion, numbered on the edge, rete assembled. Solid walnut box with a cream silk lining. Signed and numbered certificate of authenticity. Polishing cloth and care card.
Will the finish change?
The mirror high points can dull if the piece sits in open air for months. The cloth in the box brings them back in a minute. Never use silver dip: it lifts the dark field.
